Karan Johar reveals why he cannot be in a relationship

Karan Johar has never explicitly revealed his sexual orientation, although thinly-veiled hints have been dropped on several occasions. In a recent interview with an online portal, he was asked if he still intended to “suppress” his sexuality, with people and the law becoming more open.

However, Karan feels that it is “too late” for him to find love. “At 46, I can’t be in a relationship. And I’m not being cynical, I’m being practical. I don’t think I can divide my time between a relationship, and my mom and two kids. Not that one has to be sacrificed for the other, but I want to divide my time only between the relationships I have with my work,” he said.

“Finally, I can say that I’m in a relationship with myself. And when you are in one of those, you don’t have either the space or the time for anyone else,” the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director added.

In his memoir, An Unsuitable Boy, Karan stopped just short of coming out of the closet. “Everybody knows what my sexual orientation is. I don’t need to scream it out. If I need to spell it out, I won’t only because I live in a country where I could possibly be jailed for saying this,” he wrote.

The filmmaker revealed the homophobia and abuse that he is subjected to on social media. “I have become like the poster boy of homosexuality in this country,” he wrote, adding, “Twitter has the most abuse. I wake up to at least 200 hate posts saying, ‘Get out, you’re polluting our nation, you’re dirtying society’ or ‘Shove [IPC Section] 377 up your arse.’ I get this on a daily basis and I’ve learned to laugh it off.”

On the work front, Karan will soon begin work on his upcoming directorial venture, Takht. He has roped in Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar for the ambitious period drama, which is set against the backdrop of the Mughal empire. Takht is slated to release in 2020.

The Indian market will also see an extra colour option – Rose Gold – launching, up from the three – Gold, Black, and Blue – announced at the global launch. • Its market availability in Europe tipped for August 24
  • Note 9’s cases and covers showcased in leaked renders

Samsung is just two weeks away from launching its latest flagship – Galaxy Note 9 – in the market. The company has already started teasing the upcoming smartphone via several videos. While a teaser hinting at a bigger battery life in the Galaxy Note 9 was posted earlier, two new videos have suggested a few other features. Based on the latest teasers, the Galaxy Note 8 successor is said to be faster than its rivals and also come with bigger storage options. Meanwhile, rumours surrounding the Galaxy Note 9 are still pouring in, suggesting that the phone will go on sale starting August 24. Interestingly, one of the reports has also claimed that the handset will no longer need the DeX Pad to get a desktop experience.

Ahead of the Galaxy Note 9 launch, several leaks have been surfacing on the Internet for a while now, and some of them are in line with what Samsung is suggesting. As per a previous report, the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to get a variant with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of inbuilt storage. In two 30-second videos posted on YouTube, Samsung is teasing a smartphone widely speculated to be the Galaxy Note 9. While one video flashes the words “Never have enough storage? A lot can change in a day,” while another video says “Phone too slow? A lot can change in a day.”

Coming to latest leaks regarding specifications, as per a WinFuture report, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will no longer need the DeX Pad, the accessory that offers a desktop experience. Until now, this device was required to connect the handset to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. According to the new report, the Galaxy Note 9 will only require a USB Type-C cable and a display port adapter to connect to a bigger display.

While we already know that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will come with a new S Pen, a new report has leaked the alleged design of the stylus. A report in WinFuture showcases the Galaxy Note 9 S Pen in all its glory. The same report has also leaked renders of the various Galaxy Note 9 cases and covers. While previous reports had claimed that the S Pen will double as a Bluetooth controller for the Galaxy Note 9. However, the images do not suggest the availability of any such functionality.

Microsoft ex-CEO Ballmer says if Windows changes were bad for profits, ‘I’d be selling’ shares

Steve Ballmer

Anjali Sundaram | CNBC
Steve Ballmer

Steve Ballmer, the former CEO of Microsoft and one its top stockholders, said this week that he’d be unloading his shares if the company tried to move away from its Windows franchise.

Microsoft split up its Windows group earlier this year, putting some of the business into the unit that develops the Azure cloud and the rest into the group that works on Office and devices. It’s all part of Microsoft’s shift to focus on the cloud and artificial intelligence under Ballmer’s successor, Satya Nadella.

Still, Windows is producing more and more revenue and a big chunk of profit, even as Nadella changes direction.

“I mean, this less importance on Windows thing I find a humorous thing by the press,” Ballmer said in an interview on Monday at the WSJ Tech D.Live event in Laguna Beach, California.

Ballmer said he can’t imagine the company would do anything to unwind it.

“If they were, I’d be selling,” he said.

Windows revenue increased 5 percent to $19.5 billion in the latest fiscal year, which ended on June 30. That represents more than 17 percent of total revenue. Microsoft doesn’t disclose operating income for Windows, but Ballmer said at the conference that the business accounts for $13 or $14 billion of operating profit. If true, that would represent about 40 percent of the total.

While Ballmer said he doesn’t agree with how some of the changes at the company have been portratyed, he’s generally bullish on the direction. Microsoft has released several apps for Android and iOS, and has sought to bring more content from phones into Windows.

“The company has made a smart choice, in my opinion, to go more platform independent,” Ballmer said. In working across operating systems, “I think the company has done a good job,” he said.

Ballmer has certainly been rewarded for hanging onto his stock. Since Nadella took over the top job in 2014, the stock has tripled and the company is now worth over $800 billion. Ballmer’s net worth is estimated at over $40 billion, and almost all of that is from his current ownership in Microsoft.

“I’m glad we left the company with good profit streams and good technology,” Ballmer said. “I’m glad Satya’s taken that to whole new levels. I think that’s fantastic, and as a shareholder, I think it’s double and triple fantastic.”
