Karan Johar reveals why he cannot be in a relationship

Karan Johar has never explicitly revealed his sexual orientation, although thinly-veiled hints have been dropped on several occasions. In a recent interview with an online portal, he was asked if he still intended to “suppress” his sexuality, with people and the law becoming more open.

However, Karan feels that it is “too late” for him to find love. “At 46, I can’t be in a relationship. And I’m not being cynical, I’m being practical. I don’t think I can divide my time between a relationship, and my mom and two kids. Not that one has to be sacrificed for the other, but I want to divide my time only between the relationships I have with my work,” he said.

“Finally, I can say that I’m in a relationship with myself. And when you are in one of those, you don’t have either the space or the time for anyone else,” the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director added.

In his memoir, An Unsuitable Boy, Karan stopped just short of coming out of the closet. “Everybody knows what my sexual orientation is. I don’t need to scream it out. If I need to spell it out, I won’t only because I live in a country where I could possibly be jailed for saying this,” he wrote.

The filmmaker revealed the homophobia and abuse that he is subjected to on social media. “I have become like the poster boy of homosexuality in this country,” he wrote, adding, “Twitter has the most abuse. I wake up to at least 200 hate posts saying, ‘Get out, you’re polluting our nation, you’re dirtying society’ or ‘Shove [IPC Section] 377 up your arse.’ I get this on a daily basis and I’ve learned to laugh it off.”

On the work front, Karan will soon begin work on his upcoming directorial venture, Takht. He has roped in Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar for the ambitious period drama, which is set against the backdrop of the Mughal empire. Takht is slated to release in 2020.

Nokia 9 Concept Render Shows a Display Notch, Penta-Lens Camera Setup

Nokia 9 render shows off Zeiss branding at the back

Nokia 9 with a penta-lens camera setup is presently one of the most anticipated developments in the smartphone market. While nothing official about the handset has so far been confirmed, the awaited Nokia 9 has now been leaked in a fresh render that shows its entire front and rear design. The render reveals the presence of a display notch that looks similar to what was featured on the Nokia X6. Also, there is a thin-bezel display that covers the entire frontal area. The back view of the Nokia 9 shows the five camera sensors. Some previous reports claimed that the Nokia 9 will be based on Google’s Android One programme. It was initially expected to come at the IFA last week, but the company didn’t make any formal announcement around its presence at the six-day event in Berlin, Germany.

Developed by tipster Benjamin Geskin, the render shows that the front view of the Nokia 9 is dominated by its thin-bezel display that has a notch on top. The display notch has a room for the front-facing camera sensor as well as the earpiece and some sensors, including the ambient light sensor and the proximity sensor. Below the display, there is nothing special, but Nokia’s branding shines in silver colour.

At the back, the render shows a clearer look at how the penta-lens camera setup that was recently rumoured. The camera setup includes five sensors as well as a flash module. This could be a Xenon flash. Further, there is a Zeiss logo sitting at the centre of the camera setup, suggesting premium optics. There is also a noise-cancellation microphone on top of the rear camera setup. Besides, there is a vertically-placed Nokia logo at the centre of the back panel.

It is worth noting here that the render is based on the recent leaks of the Nokia 9. Therefore, the formal design of the handset could include some major changes. The past reports have suggested that the handset could come with a 6.01-inch display along with a Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, coupled with up 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The Nokia 9 is also speculated to be a part of the Android One programme; it may thus run Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box.
